How to find someone on Telegram
Choose the method that matches the information you already have. Telegram privacy settings mean that not every person or identifier can be discovered.
Choose the right method
Three legitimate ways to search
Start with the least invasive information available and use the result only for an expected, lawful purpose.
Search a public username
Best when you already know the exact @username. Public usernames can be searched inside Telegram without sharing a phone number.

Inside Telegram
Search by username or synced contact
If you know the username
Open Telegram search, enter the complete username, and verify the profile details before starting a conversation. Display names are not unique, so an exact @username is more reliable.
If you know the phone number
Save the number in international format and refresh Telegram contacts. A match may remain hidden when the person restricts phone-number discovery or the number is not connected to Telegram.
Important limitations
Why a Telegram account may not appear
- Privacy settingsA person can limit who can discover them through their phone number.
- No public usernameAccounts without a public username cannot be found through a username search.
- Changed identifiersA username or phone number may have changed since your contact information was collected.
Respect privacy and recipient expectations
Finding a public profile does not imply consent to unsolicited or repeated messages. Use contact data lawfully, identify yourself clearly and stop when someone opts out.
